Learning the Responsible Approach to Gambling

Gambling can lead to all sorts of problems. That is, if you gamble irresponsibly. The key is to think smart and stay away from those irresponsible gambling acts. When you act that way, you become addicted to gambling. When you become addicted to gambling, you lose touch with friends, family and all reality. You become consumed by gambling.

Gambling is something that is supposed to be enjoyable and fun. It should not be something on which your entire life hinges. If it is, then you are addicted to gambling. Listed below are some suggestions to keep in mind so that you can gamble responsibly.

HAVE A PLAN WHEN YOU LOSE. It is not IF you lose, it is WHEN you lose. You will lose. Nobody, no matter how good they are, wins all of the time. And thinking this way is not being negative. You will lose at some time or another. Make sure you have budgeted an amount of money to lose each time that you play. Sometimes it is even a good idea to put a limit on the amount of time which you will play. Then your participation is not based on financial information.
DON'T BORROW TO GAMBLE. Do not go to friends and family members and try to borrow money to continue gambling once you have run out of money. Set a limit on the amount that you will lose and stick to it.
PLAN FREQUENT BREAKS. No matter how you are gambling, either at a casino or online, you should make plans to take breaks when you get tired. After you have played for awhile, you will most certainly get tired. When you do, take a break. If you don't, you will begin making stupid bets and / or mistakes because you are not as sharp as you should be.
SOCIALIZE AND MINGLE. While you are gambling and decide to take a break, do so by socializing with friends or family who are also at the casino. This can serve as a great break from the stress of the table or the slots. Go and visit with some friends while you take a break. This will relieve the tension and give you a second wind when, and if, you want to return to the table.
DON'T USE GAMBLING AS AN ESCAPE. Do not gamble when you are depressed about something or if you are trying to divert your attention away from something. If you do, it will only effect your judgment. And it will not be in a positive way.
STICK TO YOUR BUDGET, NO MATTER WHAT. Once you have established the amount of money which dictates when you will stop, stick to it. Do not let yourself be influenced by other people to continue, even for one more hand. If you let yourself go, it will only provide negative results for you.
DON'T ATTEMPT TO RECOUP LOSSES. No matter what the circumstances, NEVER try to recoup any losses. All this will do is suck you in to playing longer than you intended. It will also cost you a lot more money in losses. Know when to quit and quit at that point, no matter what.
